What could be better than perfect weather and a visit to the farm? A family fun day at Von Thun's Sunflower Festival – Sweet Corn Fest, that is!
This past weekend, my family and I had the opportunity to attend one of many themed Sunflower Festivals at Von Thun Farms in Washington, NJ, this season. We chose to experience the Sweet Corn Fest! My little one absolutely loves corn, and his reaction after taking his very first bite confirmed that we made the right choice!
We truly came for the sunflowers and summer flower fields’ colorful hues and stayed for the family fun and tasty sweet corn and treats!

How Was Our Experience at the Sunflower Festival - Sweet Corn Fest?
Thankfully, Mother Nature was on our side and gave us the most perfect weather during our visit to Von Thun Farms.
Getting there from our home was easy; it was just a 25-minute drive with ample, organized parking. The friendly staff and short lines made the check-in process smooth, which I greatly appreciate as a mom of two energetic boys who can't sit still for a minute. I know many of my mom friends can relate to this!
The farm is super spacious, and even during the festival we attended, it never felt overcrowded. There was plenty of room for families to relax and enjoy their time together. Overall, it was a wonderful summer day for our entire family!

The Sunflowers and Summer Flowers Were the Main Event - And They Were Simply Perfect!
This past weekend we attended the Sunflower Festival - Sweet Corn Fest, and let me tell you, the Sunflowers and Summer Flowers were beaming with life. Their multicolored, bright hues were just picture-perfect!
Let's talk about the Sunflower Trail itself! The trail was definitely created with comfort in mind. There was one way in and one way out - no confusing mazes or never-ending trails. The walking space was wide enough for multiple families to walk around at the same time without bumping into each other. Strolling through the easy-to-navigate Sunflower Trail was perfect for small and large families with children.
The best part for me was the chance to capture the flowers' beauty in photographs. My boys were more intrigued by walking around and watching the little bees naturally enjoying what bees enjoy: the sunflower nectar! Besides that, they couldn't wait to get back to the farm's activity area that kept them happy and entertained!

Picture Perfect? Let's Talk About Photo Ops.
The Sunflower Trail had many different photo op options for everyone to enjoy and capture the perfect shot! From the I love Von Thun Farms bench, a supersized colorful Adirondack Chair, a Wooden Swing, a Turquoise Bench, to a small Farm Tractor and much more! Von Thun Farms knows what makes the inner photographer in you happy, and that is multiple unique photo ops throughout the farm! Perfect for capturing those special memories with your family and friends!

Fun and Games at the Farm!
After walking through the Sunflower Trail, Summer Flowers Fields, and managing to take a few pictures of the boys, they couldn't wait to get their much-deserved playtime at the activity area within the farm. The "Barnyard Basketball" was their favorite - even their Dad joined in on the fun! Other games and activities they enjoyed were the "Who's Your Sunflower?" game and the "Pedal Karts"!
During this time, I also observed many other families enjoying playtime with their children at Von Thun Farms. The Sunflower Festival had 30+ activities and games for children of all ages. Among them were:
- Barnyard Basketball
- Barnyard Golf
- Barnyard Baseball
- Bubble Barn
- Duck Races
- Pedal Karts
- Jr. Pedal Karts
- Barnyard Bouncers, and many more!

A Farm Visit Isn't Complete Without A Hayride and the Farm's Animals!
Our family took a relaxing hayride around the farm! We even spotted the anticipated pick-your-own fields for the fall season - pumpkins and apples!
For the farm-animal-loving kiddos and adults like me, seeing the lovely farm animals is always a treat! Always love saying hello to the piggies at the "piggy bank". Seeing the chickens chill at the "chick inn". And let's not forget about the lovely baby bison we saw at the "shear shack". This little one was super photogenic!

Sweet Corn and Treats!
This was the moment my little one had been waiting for - to take a bite out of Von Thun Farms' Sweet Corn!
We were so busy enjoying the day that we almost didn't make it over to the Snack Shack! Thankfully, the friendly staff gave all remaining visitors a few extra minutes to savor the flavors of their farm-grown sweet corn and other sweet treats!
Once my little one took that first bite, he said: "Oh my god, this corn tastes so good!" My husband and I had the corn as well, and we both agreed this was the best corn we've both ever had!
Our other son couldn't get enough of Von Thun Farms' Apple Cider Donuts. We all tried the donuts, and they were simply fresh and delicious!

Would Our Family Return for More Fun?
Absolutely! Von Thun Farms has plenty of seasonal family fun events throughout the year. We'd definitely be back!
During this visit, we enjoyed...
